Mat Cutters

There are a variety of mat cutters on the market today.  They range from manually operated mat cutters to sophiticated computer programs that are linked to mat cutters.  Some mat cutting systems can be used to cut glass and foam core in addition to mats. 

Mat cutters will consist of at least a couple of straight edges to provide for precision measuring and cutting.  They will also have a razor-sharp cutter which can be positioned at a 45 degree angle to provide for cutting beveled edges.

Computer-aided mat cutters can cut intricate corners and other designs into the matboard adding decoration and/or style to the piece. 

There are many hand-operated mat cutters on the market that are affordable for anyone wanting to do their own picture framing projects.  The more sophisticated computer-generating mat cutters are used in professional framing shops.
